Squadron Briefing: SRS Software Update to Version 2.3.0.3.

Pilots,
As your Communications Officer for the squadron, I'm reaching out to brief you on the latest update to DCS Simple Radio Standalone (SRS) version 2.3.0.3. This release brings improvements to our radios in DCS, particularly for F/A-18 ops where clear comms and realistic audio are critical. While no particular updates are critical, we will update to this version to maintain interoperability between pilots and server versions. This update enhances reliability and immersion without disrupting our processes. All squadron members are required to update immediately to maintain compatibility—Mission server has been upgraded to this version (Thanks BammBamm). Failure to update could lead to audio glitches or desyncs during mission. Summary of changes and improvements below:
• Enhanced Audio Pipeline: We've got a complete overhaul of the audio system, now including per-radio effects for more realistic transmission quality (e.g., static, filtering per aircraft radio). This is a major under-the-hood upgrade that should make F-18 UHF/VHF comms feel even more authentic. Heads up: You'll likely need to lower your speaker boost settings in Windows to avoid distortion; test this in a quick solo flight before jumping into mission. Our server update ensures full compatibility, so no issues there.
• AWACS and Custom Radio Configs: Server-side support for custom AWACS radio presets (via awacs-radios-custom.json) allows admins to push tailored channel setups to the team—opt out if needed via client settings. This is great for squadron-specific frequencies or Link 16 (MIDS) channels, which now work properly even when set manually via presets. If we were using AWACS, the handoffs would be more successful during intercepts but we don’t so no issue.
• Integration and Reliability Boosts: Fixed ATC transponder sync issues, which should eliminate ID mismatches in multiplayer. If you're using external audio tools, the initial audio cutoff bug is resolved. Plus, an option to record sessions in Opus format (instead of MP3) for smaller file sizes—handy for debriefs without eating up storage.
• UI and Hotkey Tweaks: The toggle overlay now has a proper repeat delay, and hotkeys work reliably (default: Left Ctrl + Left Shift + Escape to cycle states: hidden, small, small+volume, full). Drag the full overlay by the title bar to reposition—saves your spot for next DCS launch.
• Other Tech Notes: Under-the-hood library updates (including Microsoft's JSON parser) make SRS more efficient but watch for any third-party tool hiccups (flag me if you spot issues). REST API now requires an API key for security. Installer fixes prevent accidental deletion of custom PTT tones or audio files. Default install path shifted to Program Data for better permissions, and there's a potential Linux/WINE fix if anyone's running that setup.
No major breaking changes for our F-18 focus, but this update locks in better performance for high-tempo scenarios like carrier ops or dynamic strikes.
Update Instructions:
1. Download the latest SRS-AutoUpdater.exe from the GitHub release page (or grab the full ZIP if preferred).
2. Run the updater—it'll handle replacing the old version automatically. If using the ZIP, extract to a temp folder and launch the installer.
3. Restart DCS and SRS client/server after install. Test PTT, channels, and overlay in a local session.
4. Squadron mission server has been updated. Contact me up if you hit any snags.
Stay sharp out there—clear comms save lives, even in sim.
Aviate, Navigate, Communicate.
