VFA-41 Black Ace squadron was tasked with a night time strike mission on Al Dhafra Air Force Base, with primary targets of ammunition bunkers. Two flights were dispatched with six pilots total. Secondary targets were assigned as any parked military aircraft on the tarmacs, but UAE officials requested soft munitions for any secondary target attacks, to keep damage to the airport itself minimal.

The carrier group sent out and F-14 CAP escort flight first, who did engage and destroy hostile aircraft offshore of the AO. One ally F-14 was lost in the dogfight.

Both strike flights put bombs near ammunition bunker primary targets, while also getting off HARM shots on nearby enemy SAM positions. The AO was heavily fortified with both SAM sites as well as AAA fire. Damage to the bunker structures themselves was limited however, with reports of one totally destroyed, with the others sustaining only low to moderate damage. No attempt was made on the secondary targets, which were observed to be present, although several planes on the ground suffered collateral damage from heavy JDAM bunker buster ordinance that fell off target. UAE officials were inspecting damage to the airport itself as this report was written,
