Earlier this week VFA-41 was tasked with destroying several Silkworm missile batteries that threatened shipping lanes in the Red Sea.
Three flights of VFA-41 Hornets departed USS Abraham Lincoln and proceeded south through the Sanai Peninsula, skirting two Egyptian Surface to Air batteries until the were within range of the target coordinates supplied by intelligence satellite imagery.
Dealer flights 1 and two launched AGM-154 JSOWs at five separate silkworm missile batteries each, with their primary targets being the batteries' targeting radars. All 10 radars appeared to be destroyed in the attack, along with several missile launchers.
Dealer 3 was tasked with providing defensive air cover for the other two flights. A flight of Syrian Mig-21's did attempt to engage Dealer 1, and one of the Migs was destroyed before it could pose a threat to the egressing strike aircraft. After losing one of their jets, the remaining two Migs broke off and appeared to return to base.
No friendly aircraft were lost to enemy action, however several squadron pilots were disconnected from the server during the mission and could not complete their flights. All remaining aircraft safely recovered aboard the Carrier.
