VFA-41 was tasked to soften remaining air defenses in and around the Russian naval base at Polyarny.
Three flights of DEALER Hornets launched from USS Abraham Lincoln and headed towards the coast.
DEALER 3's two jets were leading the way as a fighter and SEAD sweep. DEALER 1 and DEALER 2 followed behind armed with GPS guided munitions to destroy any short range SAMS and AAA that remained.
While still 80+ miles from the coast, two flights of Red Russian interceptors turned towards the incoming strike package and were engaged by DEALER3. DEALER 3 pilots performed flawlessly and damaged or destroyed four of the six MiG-31s and SU-27s despite being outnumbered and simultaneously engaged by the Red Russian fighters. The remaining two enemy fighters either ran for home or crashed due to fuel starvation.
The strike package regrouped offshore once the route to the target area was determined to be clear and proceeded inbound once again.
DEALER 3 destroyed several short-range radar guided SAMs during their SEAD sweep with HARM missiles before proceeding back to the Lincoln.
DEALER 2 and DEALER 1 then worked the target area at high altitude, eliminating numerous AAA guns, fire control radars, and resupply trucks with JDAM and JSOW munitions, as well as an additional SAM search radar.
DEALER 1-3 was lost over the target area when hit by a missile from a Mig-29 that had just launched from a nearby airfield in response to the attack. All other aircraft, most of which were already low on gas were already in the process of egressing the area and the Migs broke off their pursuit with no further action.
One DEALER 2 jet was lost upon recovery at the Lincoln after a landing gear malfunction of unknown cause. All remaining jets recovered without incident.
