VFA-41 was tasked with a primary objective of attacking and destroying Syrian headquarters buildings with a secondary objective of locating and killing any HVTs traveling to or from the HQ site. NATO assets provided a drone orbiting the target area to assist in locating and laser designating vehicles to be serviced.
The Mission Commander determined that the target buildings, expected to be reinforced, would be addressed with 2000 lb JDAM penetrators, with laser-guided Maverick E missiles readied with the drone's laser code. CAP and SEAD flights were also assigned to engage any air-to-air or surface-to-air threats encountered.
