04 APR 2021 Gauntlet-4

In an attempt to solidify their hold on the Gulf region, punish their neighbors for support of the US during the Gulf War, and to assert themselves as the pre-dominant oil supplier in the region, Iran has begun attacking oil platforms and shipping vessels trapped in the Gulf, especially oil tankers.

Our current role is to intercept as many of these strikes as we can, in addition to trying to eliminate the Iranians' ability to launch them in the first place.

The carrier strike group will switch its attention from enforcing the Iraqi no-fly zone in order to better respond to Iranian oil field and shipping attacks.

Iranian attack aircraft and helicopters are rampaging through the Gulf attacking anything not flying an Iranian flag. Obviously, this course of action can not be allowed to continue. Currently there are several neutral or friendly vessels transiting the Gulf that must be protected.

A short while ago, an oil tanker traveling from the UAE to Kuwait was crippled by anti-ship cruise missiles launched by Iranian patrol boats. The ship is going down and SAR is scrambling a pair of rescue helos to go fish the crew out of the drink. With the current situation being what it is, it is not all that unlikely that Iran might try to finish the job they started and maybe down the rescue birds as well. We want you to fly over to the site of the wreck and fly top-cover for the rescue operation and make sure the helicopters make it to coverage of the air defences at Sir Abu Nuayr island.

Down any Iranian aircraft that approach the wreck site.
Waypoint 1 is the location of the wreck. Escort the SAR birds as far as waypoint 2 to achieve mission success.

The SAR flight will be on 266.00 and will be actively communicating with OVERLORD with status updates. Pontiac 9 will depart their base on Sir Abu Nuayr island shortly after Dealer flights depart the carrier to ensure CAP coverage. Estimated time on target is 30 minutes after departure.

Tankers are airborne, but they will be limited to operate within protected airspace over Qatar territory.

Supporting Aircraft (USAF):
1. 1x E-3 AWACS Callsign: Wizard 3-1

Mission: Search and Rescue Combat Air Patrol
Flight Callsign: Dodge 1-1
Takeoff time: 1700 (local). Sunset 1830L.
WX: Clear, winds NW @ 20 knots sea level, winds WSW @ 76 knots beginning at FL260
Bullseye: Stricken Tanker (WAYPOINT 1)
ROE: Red - Weapons Free
Carrier ICLS: 5

Expected Threats:
Probable interceptors inbound on the wreck.

Iranian forces are running combat air patrols on their coastlines, not expected to leave their airspace unless US aircraft get too close.

Any Iranian helicopter or aircraft hot and fast on the wrecked tanker or rescue birds.

Notice: DO NOT land at Sir Abu Nuayr Airfield unless your aircraft is running on fuel fumes with no stores. The runway is too short and the crosswind too high otherwise for a safe landing. Safe alternate fields are Abu Dhabi International and Al Dhafra AFB.
