MISSION:
Flights of the VFA-41 Black Aces will launch and destroy a recently deployed SA-10 Grumble SAM on the
Russia / Georgia border near the territory of South Ossentia. The SAM, when complete, will hinder access to the
three civilian airports in eastern Georgia. Command has ordered a SEAD mission to eliminate the threat. Search and Tracking radar is operational at the SAM site but the status of launchers is unknown at this time. Disable the radar and ingress to destroy all units of the SAM system. A NOE ( nap of earth ) approach from WP#4 to WP#5 ( SAM Target Area ) should provide sufficient terrain masking to launch on the SAM under 20 nm range in the event any of the launchers become operational. WP#5 marks the target SAM's present location and has altitude set to ground level for targeting purposes. Flight path ~ 400 nm
SITUATION:
A SA-10 Grumble SAM system is near operational on a mountain 60 nm north of Tbilisi-Lochini Airport. So far the
SAM has not launched on any aircraft but it can not be allowed to remain and dominate the use of the airports.
There is no doubt the SAM was supplied by Russia and the South Ossentia rebel forces hope to use it to advance their influence in the area. Russian authorities have denied any involvement in the SAM's placement or operation.
