SITUATION

This week squadron pilots will conduct a timed low-level ingress against a simulated enemy training camp.

Each dealer aircraft will receive a requested Time on Target (ToT) from range control and commence/fly the route independently, arriving over target at their specified time and dropping high-drag unguided bombs on the target from low altitude.

Mission Commander’s note: No F-14’s are available this week. Required loadout for each aircraft will be 2 x Fuel tanks and 6 x Mk-82Y.

MISSION

Winds are from the south, and flights will depart via Runway 21 utilizing the FYTTR SIX departure. Flight leads will be directed to contact BLACKJACK upon range entry at JAYSN and will be told to hold over Pahute Mesa Airstrip (WP2) while awaiting ToT assignments from BLACKJACK.

• The Mission starts at 13:00L. Flights should not unduly delay on the ramp to resolve comms/systems/equipment issues for individual pilots. In order to make their required range times, all flights must launch in time to arrive on station at WP2 by the following times:

o DEALER 1: NLT 13:30L / 21:30Z
o DEALER 2: NLT 13:35L / 21:35Z
o DEALER 3: NLT 13:40L / 21:40Z

• Once in holding over Pahute Mesa (WP 2), BLACKJACK will issue specific ToT assignments to each aircraft in a flight. Aircraft in a given flight will be spaced approximately 30 seconds apart.

• Every aircraft will fly the route independently. Each pilot will practice utilizing their UFC, steering, and speed cues to arrive over target (WP 10) at their own specified ToT

• For planning purposes, the LL route (WPs 3-10) takes approximately 15-16 minutes to fly at 500kts groundspeed.

• High-drag Mk-82 Ys will be utilized in this mission. Ideal drop parameters today will be 500 kts groundspeed from IP to Target at an altitude of 350’-550’ AGL.

After arriving over the target and delivering their ordnance, pilots will egress to the West via WP 11. Upon reaching the egress point, continue to exit the range via JAYSN (WP12) and join the BEATTY arrival back to Nellis for a RWY 21 recovery.

Since all aircraft will be spaced out along the route, aircraft may exit and RTB as single ships- there is no need to rejoin as a flight exiting the range.

THREATS

No enemy threats exist

ROE

Follow the prescribed route of flight and any directives issued by ATC/Range Control.

All aircraft are reminded that it is squadron SOP to monitor GUARD frequency (121.5/253.0) on COMM2. This will be required at all times in the range complex for high priority information and traffic deconfliction purposes.

Time on Target (ToT) demonstration video available for anyone who has not played with it before, or needs a refresher, as it is not inherently obvious how to set up.

Demo mission used in video available if you want to practice offline:

Also - We don't use high drag bombs much, so not a bad idea to get out on the range once or twice this week to practice setting them up/fusing and whatnot. Things will happen quick from the IP to the target and you will be low and fast. Being heads-down setting things up at the last minute not advisable, probably a good idea to be comfortable with the switchology and have an idea of how you plan to drop beforehand (CCIP? Auto? - up to pilot preference).

FWIW-There's a powerplant/solar farm located at WP6 in the demo mission above, if you want to practice some low level / high drag bomb delivery against it
