SITUATION
NATO ground forces with the support of US Navy and Marine Corps strike aircraft, overwhelmed the defenses at Jirah Airbase and have now turned south in a race to capture the Syrians’ last remaining stronghold and airbase in the northern part of the AOR at Tabqah
Ground forces are working their way South / Southeast along the western shore of Assad Reservoir. Syrian defenses are light so far and minimal opposition has been encountered, but intelligence expects resistance to increase the closer the allies advance towards Tabqah.
Today’s objective has NATO infantry and armor advancing to the town of Maskanah and solidifying their positions there before Syrian troops and reinforcements can arrive.
MISSION
NATO intelligence has become aware of a column of Syrian tanks and light armored vehicles that are moving to reinforce Syrian lines near the town of Maskanah [WP3]. VFA-41 has been tasked to intercept this column enroute before they can get in position to threaten our ground forces.
The column has been spotted leaving the town of Tabqah on the south side of Assad Reservoir and is slowly making its way North up the western shoreline via Highway 4, the Tabqa-Maskanah highway. VFA-41 should patrol the Tabqah Highway) between [WP3] and [WP4] and engage any Syrian armor/vehicles they encounter travelling N along the road.
Friendly forces will limit their advance to the town of Maskanah. No friendly units should be operating South of Maskanah [WP3] along the highway.
Expect a column of 15-20 vehicles consisting of tanks, IFVs, and rocket-launchers, possibly accompanied by truck-mounted AAA.
THREATS
The town of Tabquah, approximately 12 miles E of [WP4] has a known SA-2 site that may still be operational. Be prepared to engage (or avoid) that SAM if operating along the southern stretch of the highway near [WP4]
AAA will likely accompany the convoy.
Mig presence is expected to be very light or non-existent. USAF CAP has been keeping the skies over the front lines relatively clear of hostile aircraft in recent weeks.
ROE
WEAPONS FREE- All Syrian ground and air targets may be engaged upon contact. Be on the lookout for friendly armor/troops to the north and west of Maskanah [WP3]
