26 JUN 2022 - Damascus Dawn Week 23

SITUATION

NATO Ground forces continue to face stiff resistance as they slowly push Eastward from the city of Aleppo. Meanwhile, allied air assets are continuing their attacks on military-industrial targets deeper within Syria.

Syrian air defenses are weakening, however strong surface to air and AAA resistance still exists in part of the region. Namely the important military and industrial complexes surrounding the town of Jirah, as well as farther to the south near the city of Palmyra.

Flights to these two areas are still at risk of engagement by multiple SAM sites.

MISSION

VFA-41 has been assigned the difficult task of attacking a well-defended pumping station and hydroelectric power distribution complex at Jirah, on the western shore of the Assad Reservoir. Squadron aircraft will launch just before dawn at 04:30.

The site is protected by numerous radar and manually-sighted AAA positions, an operational SA-11 to the North, and an SA-2 to the South. This makes long-range JSOW munitions a requirement for this mission.

The target consists of a main power generation and machinery building [WP4], a series of four transformers/transmission substations [WP5], as well as the hydroelectric pumping station [WP13], which additionally feeds an irrigation canal with water from Assad Reservoir.

The four rows of transmission substations lie adjacent to [WP5]. Knocking out the western-most substation in each row will bring down the entire series of transformers and disable the downline power grid.

Additionally, the dam/pumping station must be approached from the East in order to deliver a warhead to the structurally critical part of the target. Due to the SAM threats and an increased chance of interception the deeper one flies into Syria, it is strongly suggested to utilize SLAM-ER missiles flying along a programmed route to target the dam.

DEALER 3 aircraft will be loaded with additional waypoints 9,10,11,12,13 to utilize for programming SLAMER missiles to launch from the West and terminally attack from the East.

A flight of US F-16c aircraft [FORD FLIGHT] out of Incirlik will attempt to engage and distract the main SA-11 site near the target area in the hopes of knocking out radars or expending the site’s missiles before it can knock out VFA-41’s slower JSOW and SLAMER weapons approaching the target. The F-16s are scheduled to ingress from their IP to the target at 05:15 local. So, it is highly advised to follow them in and not launch weapons until their HARMs are inbound to the SA-11.

TEXACO will be available for ingress or egress tanking as desired along the route of flight.

THREATS

Syrian aircraft will be limited to the extreme eastern and southern portions of the AOR due to overwhelming US air superiority in and around Aleppo.

The extensive AAA and SAM defenses surrounding the target have already been addressed. Be cautious if approaching the target area closer than ~20nm.

ROE

Weapons free- All Syrian targets may be engaged.
