SITUATION
NATO ground units have reached the outskirts of Aleppo and will be entering the city from the NE this morning and pushing through to attempt to seize Aleppo International Airport.
A-10 aircraft and AH-64 helicopters will be supporting the ground offensive and working to eliminate pockets of Syrian resistance. F-15E aircraft out of Incirlik will also be on call to strike emergent hard targets and fortified enemy positions.
Syrian aircraft will likely scramble and attempt to target the advancing allied ground forces as well as intercepting friendly strike and CAS aircraft operating in and around Aleppo
Therefore, it is important that the allies maintain air superiority over Aleppo throughout the morning.
MISSION
VFA-41 will launch from USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN-73) and provide CAP/TARCAP over the city of Aleppo in support of the allied ground offensive and associated supporting aircraft.
DEALER flights will launch at 0730 and provide CAP until relieved by other assets at approximately 0900.
WPs [1] and [2] establish a roughly W-E CAP track near Aleppo, but the actual formation/conduct of the CAP may be at the discretion of the Mission Commander, so long as friendly presence is maintained in the area sufficient to intercept any Syrian aircraft approaching Aleppo
Any and all Syrian aircraft approaching Aleppo and/or NATO ground forces to the NE can and should be engaged.
THREATS
Expect Syria to muster as much of an airborne response as they are able. Limited numbers of Mig-25s are still operational, as well as Mig 29s, 23s, and 21s.
Be on the lookout for ground attack aircraft headed for the front lines in the form of Su-24s and 25s.
The SA-11 site SE of Aleppo of was further damaged by F-16s last week, but the radar and command center are still believed to be operational. Recent flights have not been illuminated/targeted by the SA-11, but it is still a possible threat. Farther East of Aleppo near Assad Reservoir and Tabqua AB, Syrian air defenses are still intact, to include a fully operational SA-10. Exercise caution if attempting to chase or engage any Syrian aircraft flying well East/Southeast of Aleppo.
AAA still exists throughout the city itself.
ROE
Weapons free- All Syrian targets may be engaged.
