SITUATION
Allied ground forces have pushed deeper into Syrian territory and have seized the northern airfield of Minakh. NATO is now poised to move on the City of Aleppo from the north and west once enemy forces defending the city are sufficiently weakened.
US Navy and Air Force airstrikes against targets in and around Aleppo are continuing this week in order to disrupt Syrian supply lines, infrastructure and command and control networks.
MISSION
VFA-41 will once again be part of a larger strike package hitting targets within the city of Aleppo. In this afternoon’s raid, a Powerplant [WP3] has been selected as our primary target, with the adjacent Railyard [WP4] named as a secondary target, should enough aircraft be available.
VFA-41 will launch at 17:30 and proceed to the assembly area [WP1] where we will be met by our fighter escort, PONTIAC flight (4 x F-15C).
Once DEALER and PONTIAC flights are joined, the package can depart WP1 and proceed towards target.
Concurrently, COLT flights will be pressing inland to take out two EWR sites that cover the Aleppo area. ToT for destruction of the EWRs is 18:05, so it would be advisable for DEALER flights to plan to arrive at the IP [WP2] at 18:05 or later to avoid early detection by Syrian air Defenses.
Numerous SAM sites were destroyed in and around Aleppo during the last mission. However, it is believed that the SA-11 site southeast of the city which fired upon NATO aircraft last week is still largely operational. An additional targeting Waypoint [WP5] has been placed at the location of the SA-11 to facilitate PB HARM targeting, should it also threaten this week’s strike (SD Search Radar: 107, Buk TELAR: 115).
It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to egress left (North) after dropping weapons to exit the SA-11’s WEZ as quickly as possible.
TEXACO will once again be on station off the coast as will both North and South CAP patrols to cover strike package egress.
THREATS
The Previous SA-2, SA-8 and SA-6 emplacements within the city of Aleppo are confirmed damaged and inoperable by post-strike recon and analysis from last week. As previously mentioned, parts of the city are still within the outermost engagement range of the SA-11 located at WP5.
Heavy AAA is still located throughout city and near Aleppo Airport.
Syrian Migs will most likely be operating from interior airfields performing CAP duties similar to last week. Accordingly, strike and egress from the target area as quickly as possible.
F-15 Escort will accompany DEALER flights and friendly aircraft will be operating along the coast at North and South CAP stations to provide cover during egress.
