Acting on  intelligence reports that Red Russian forces had taken control of two Typhon class nuclear submarines, US jets launched from a carrier battle group flew a low level reconnaissance mission over the port of Olenya Guba. The subs were confirmed to be in port, potentially being loaded out with long-range nuclear missiles. Pentagon sources termed to revelation as "troubling" and that it could lead to a rapid escalation of hostilities.
