As mentioned in the 1/30/22 mission debrief, a good way to avoid getting too low into the Weapon Engagement Zone (WEZ) of AAA and MANPADs during strike missions is to set a barometric altitude warning via the HSI page. It is set to a default altitude of 5,000 feet on start up, which is why you typically hear Bitching Betty give you the "Altitude, Altitude" message on the decent in for landing when you pass back below 5K feet. To set it up for your use, do the following:
On the HSI page, select the DATA button (Top Right corner):
Then select the A/C button (Top Left Corner):
Then press the button under BARO (Bottom Left Corner):
Now move up to the UFC and enter the desired altitude for the warning to activate on the scratch pad and hit enter:
Take a look back at the HSI page and notice the new altitude in the bottom left corner under BARO. You'll now get the verbal warning from Betty once you descend below this altitude.
Depending on the ground threats, I normally set this at either 20,000 feet or 12,000 feet to give me an approximate 2,000 foot warning cushion before descending inside most point defense WEZ's. That said, it's important to remember that it is a barometric warning and not AGL, so if the target area (and defenses) are at elevated locations, you will need to adjust the warning accordingly.
