Following the loss of an Abkhazia defector who was being flown to to Turkey, VFA-41 has been asked to provide escort for the UN investigation team.

VFA-41 met the flight of investigators at the rendezvous point and time and took over as escort. Several flights of Russian aircraft were observed, tracked, and identified during the flight. None of which showed any aggression. They continued to be monitored but were left to continue their flights.

The package aircraft was observed landing at Kobuleti.

After the package aircraft landed VFA-41 flights near Kobuleti landed for fuel while others returned to CVN-71. While landing in Kobuleti two aircraft were damaged while landing due to high crosswinds. One aircraft stayed at Kobuleti for repairs. Unfortunately, the other aircraft's damage was not detected until it took off from Kobuleti. It flew back to the carrier but flight control was not suitable to allow for a landing. The pilot ejected over the carrier and was recovered. All other flights returned safely to CVN-71.
