16 MAR Pick up Msn Sarin in the Haystack * Anti-Ship*

VFA-41 was tasked with a maritime interdiction assignment, to locate a pair of cargo vessels known to be transporting chemical weapons, and to secure the area so that they could be safely boarded by special forces delivered by helicopter.

Three flights were sortied with separate search areas. Dealer 2 aircraft located the target ships being escorted by a pair of armed patrol boats. They engaged our aircraft with anti-aircraft fire. One of them was destroyed with a Harpoon missile. However, the other shot down the special forces helicopter as it approached, and before it was ultimately sunk with a Maverick missile.

Dealer 1 aircraft downed a Tu-95 Bear bomber loitering in the area and declared hostile by AWACs.

One Dealer 2 aircraft was forced to divert due to AAA damage. Another crashed on recovery as a result of an apparent flight control system problem.

Dealer 1

2 - NoPro: trapped.

Dealer 2
1 - Maniac: hit by AAA, diverted.
2 - BammBamm: 1x Molniya Patrol Boat, trapped.
3 - Crash: 1x Molniya Patrol Boat, crashed on recovery.

Dealer 3
1 - Chaos: trapped.
2 - Mr. Bean: trapped.

Mission objectives not met. The ships carrying chemical weapons are presumed to have made port.
