This past week, pilots of VFA-41 Black Aces once again took to the skies over the Nevada Test and Training Range. This weeks sorties were to practice working with Joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTAC) prepositioned on the ground. Dealer flights were divided among three different ranges, all with similar target sets. After flying the DREAM 6 departure from Nellis AFB, each flight was directed to their individual ranges for follow on contact from their respective JTAC. The JTACs provided target coordinates, descriptions, marking and other attack procedure information and Dealer flights prosecuted designated ground targets with AGM-65E Mavericks, GBU-12 Paveway bombs, Mk-82 dumb bombs and 20mm cannon strafing. Some Dealer aircraft made a trip to airborne tankers with varying degrees of success. Two pilots, having trouble on the basket, eventually diverted to nearby Creech AFB. All other Dealer aircraft recovered at Nellis via various instrument arrivals.
