Last night aircraft from VFA-41 conducted nighttime air to ground patrols over Eastern Syria as part of the coalition involved in Operation Enduring Resolve.
Eight squadron jets manned up for a 2300 local launch from USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN-73). One aircraft was down in the chocks for communication system malfunctions, but the other seven jets launched on schedule in three flights and checked in with Overlord as they crossed the Syrian coastline.
Multiple targets were identified for the squadron Hornets throughout the course of their patrol to include an ISIS fuel depot, Syrian armored column, CAS for engaged friendly troops, and a confirmed ISIS training camp. All targets were prosecuted using laser-guided munitions from high altitude due to the persistent MANPAD threat over most of the region.
Three USAF tankers were on station in the region as well to provide egress and station tanking. Each flight needed to refuel at least once on the moonless night while on patrol.
Upon completion of tasking, all DEALER jets returned to the WASHINGTON for an uneventful safe recovery on a pitch black night.
Post flight intelligence analysis concluded that all assigned targets sustained significant damage and the mission was largely successful at thwarting any imminent ISIS and Syrian advances in the area.
