VFA-41 was tasked with the destruction of two A-50 that intel on the ramp at Mozdok air base. Secondary targets are the SCUD launchers also on the same air base.
VFA-41 launched three flights. Dealer 1 and 2 for strike and Dealer 3 for CAP/SEAD in case needed.
Dealer 3 launched first and led the way in. Dealer 1 followed close behind. Dealer 2 was delayed do to catapult issues but was eventually able to get airborne.
No resistance was encountered on ingress, dealer 1 launched AGM-84 SLAM-ER missiles once near the border and then orbited the area to identify the targets and provide final guidance. Unfortunately, neither dealer 1 aircraft were able to identify the primary target and ended up striking some fuel trucks on the air base.
Dealer 2 arrived as Dealer 1 was clearing the area. Fortunately, dealer 2 was able to positively identify the primary targets and guide their SLAM-ERs to destroy them.
All flights returned to the Truman. Although, one aircraft and pilot was lost due to fuel starvation.
