After Action Report


VFA-41 was tasked with a night time demolition of the three bridges over the Rioni River connecting Poti and the industrial village of Patara-Poti. The Russians were in the staging phase of their offensive. Two road bridges and one railroad bridge were targeted for demolition. The flight plan was to run Dealer 1, Dealer 2 and Dealer3 in series attack run with approximately 20 mile spacing using GBU-10 as the primary weapon.

Dealer 1 was inbound to target when a plane in the flight was rendered inoperable from a bad satellite link. The remaining flight was successful in hitting primary targets. Dealer 1 was followed in to the target area. Dealer 2 attack run was successful, hit primary and secondary targets. Dealer 3 attack run also successful, hit primary and secondary targets. Although there was some confusion on target selection between flights all primary targets were hit and destroyed as well as secondary targets. Upon returning to mother is was discovered that a malfunction had occurred in the ICLS system and flights had to use secondary landing visuals and LSO directions were crucial. All aircraft trapped successfully.
