VFA-41 was tasked in response to real-time intelligence that placed three Russian Kilo diesel-electric submarines in port at the harbor at Novorossiysk. The presence of these submarines in the Black Sea region poses a clear and present danger to US Navy assets operating in support of Operation Noble Tempest. A coordinated strike mission was quickly prepared. The port facility was expected to be heavily defended by both surface-to-air and enemy aircraft threats, necessitating SEAD and CAP mission elements to ensure success.

1 - Mad Dog: 1x SA-19, 2x SA-11, trapped.
2 - Dirty Dan: 2x SA-19, trapped.
3 - Chaos: 1x SA-19, 2x SA-11, trapped.

Dealer 3 (Escort)
1 - Rhino: 2x Su-27, shot down by Su-27.
2 - Lion: trapped.

Two of the three Improved Kilo class submarines were destroyed. A Russian Grisha class warship that was at the port was also heavily damaged. The third Kilo had already left port and submerged before being detected by mission aircraft. The mission was evaluated as partially successful due to one of the target objectives escaped and remains a threat to US Navy ships in the Black Sea.
