Assigned to forward deploy, VFA-41 was to ferry all aircraft to Tbilisi International Airport. On the way they were tasked with escorting a flight of two C-17 carrying support equipment and personnel that are being send to support the squadron while forward depoyed.
VFA-41 departed USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75) and headed east to rendezvous with tankers and then the C-17s. After forming up with the C-17s, all flights proceeded along the assigned flight path to Tbilisi. Along the way a russian cap patrol was observed approaching the flight. Dealer 3 was send to discourage them from proceeding any farther, which they did and the russian patrol decided to turn back.
The C-17s landed safely at Tbilisi, followed by all VFA-41 aircraft.
