Three flights of F/A-18C and F-14 aircraft departed CVN-73 to attack retreating Syrian mechanized and motorized vehicles fleeing south on the Tabqa-Palmyra highway. Dealer 1 went to hit CAS zone north, Dealer 2 to hit CAS zone south, and Dealer 3 to orbit nearby in reserve. Unfortunately, shortly after departure from mother, Dealer 2 experienced multiple aircraft failures and aborted mission to return to base, only releasing Dealer 2-2 to join up Dealer 3 instead. Dealer 3 got re-assigned to attack CAS zone south.
Dealer 1 reached the north CAS zone and scored multiple successful hits, utilizing both onboard lasing and buddy lasing/talk-on to assist in target acquisition and weapon delivery.
Dealer 3 reached the south CAS zone and reported using local JTAC assets in the area for weapon guidance, although post-mission ACMI shows a questionable success rate on that front.
Overall approximately a dozen vehicles were destroyed by VFA-41 flights with others attacked by friendly coalition forces in the area, and almost all aircraft recovered safely aboard CVN-73 in CASE 1 conditions.
