Operation Freedom Calling #5

Post by Specter13 » Tue Jan 15, 2019 1:43 am

After the USAF sent over some Predators to a remote location in the desert of Iran and discovered a oil farming site they asked the Navy to send out their best squadron to do some damage to it and that lucky squadron was VFA-41 on the CVN-74 Stennis. After a rocky start (internet and catapult issues) Mission Commander switched from 306 Ticman to 308 Specter. After playing a game of "Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe" to select flight order two flights of F-18C Hornets left CVN-74 and headed for a long 370NM journey into the middle of B.F.E.. Flight 1 was tasked with solely priority target bombing with 4xMK-83's each while Flight 2 was tasked with first taking out any air defenses at a stand-off distance with 2xMAV-F's each and then running in with 2xMK-83's each to clean up anything else that might be a threat.

After high-tailing out of there Flight 2's Lead 301 Hedgehog phoned in that he was the lone survivor in his flight and that he has to now inform 306 Ticman's family that he ate not one but THREE SA-18 IR Missiles (hopefully Hedge is kind about letting them know it). After assessments were made and decisions on fuel were made all flights proceeded to Texaco for some refueling in which we drank it dry. Most of everyone filled up to a good amount and we flew as fast as our little jets could take us back to Mother.

Dealer Flight 1:
Dealer 1-1 - 308 Specter -- Priority Targets destroyed, Trapped
Dealer 1-2 - 309 Trim -- Priority Targets destroyed, Trapped
Dealer 1-3 - 307 Weavin' -- Priority Targets destroyed, Trapped
Dealer 1-4 - 312 Ranger -- Priority Targets destroyed, Crashed Landed

Dealer Flight 2:
Dealer 2-1 - 301 Hedgehog -- Priority Targets destroyed, Trapped
Dealer 2-2 - 306 Ticman -- AAA Truck Destroyed, Shot down by 3x IR Missiles
Dealer 2-3 - 304 Lion -- N/A Internet/DCS problems

MISSION SUCCESS!

Yeah I love missions that test everything you have learned with the jet you are flying. Long missions like that really test your ability to conserve fuel (in climbs and for the haul to the AO and back to where ever you need to go), do air refueling, run in on targets and strike them quick and get out as fast as possible while the whole time you are managing your fuel to either get home or get to a tanker. It also test your flight leads and mission commanders in many ways too. I do try to keep these long ones limited so that way not every mission is a three hour long flight lol gotta think about everyones time in real life.
