Post by Hedgehog » Mon Mar 14, 2022 8:19 am

VFA-41 was tasked with putting a Syrian military airfield out of business.

Two flights were launched from USS George Washington to meet the objectives. Dealer 1 was assigned the CAP role to protect against expected air resistance. Dealer 2 was assigned the ground attack role, the 2000lb GBU-21 GPS-guided bombs selected to destroy the runway, and Maverick-F infra-red guided air-to-ground weapons for the secondary objective of destroying any military aircraft still on the ground.

Dealer 1 engaged several Syrian MiG fighters. One mission aircraft was lost to in the air battle. Dealer 2 weapons found their marks, with the runway heavily damaged as well as several fighter aircraft on the ground destroyed.

Dealer 1
1 - Rhino: 1x MiG-29, 1x MiG-24, trapped.
2 - Chaos: 1x MiG-29, trapped.
3 - Iceberg: shot down by MiG-29.

Dealer 2
1 - Hedgehog: gnd tgts hit, trapped.
2 - Lion: gnd tgts hit, trapped.
3 - Mr. Bean: gnd tgts hit, trapped.
4 - Trim: gnd tgts hit, trapped.

MISSION SUCCESS. :1cool:

Though I have to wonder just how 'out of service' that field is after the attack. The DMPIs provided by the intel weenies were on either end of the runway, leaving the majority of its length untouched. Fighters don't need that much runway to work from, so while we accomplished the assigned objectives, we'd better be careful about assuming the field is now safe.

Not to mention that equally long and untouched taxiway…

The good news is that the AI isn't smart enough to know that :1grin: Those Fitters that Rhino posted the screenie of were just sitting there on the ramp with their engines running since (in their minds) they had nowhere to take off.
