Flight of 3x F/A-18Cs departed the CVN strike group in the Black Sea at 1900L for strikes on remaining armor and AAA groups at Sochi-Adler airbase before friendly forces arrived in the area. Weather was much better this time with a full moon rising and scattered clouds at two layers. Unfortunately, by the time flight arrived at the target area, blue forces had already stomped through whatever defenses were left and already driving across the tarmac and runways. Aircraft orbited above the airfield while Mission Commander obtained coordinates for alternate tasking, and eventually all planes departed the area for the new one 45 miles northwest, for enemy-held FOB Sochi. Upon reaching the area, flight identified multiple targets for attack, including a group of T-55s, BMP-1s, and multiple ZU-23 AAA encampments. All were engaged and inflicted serious casualties to the enemy.
Flight returned to mother after winchester or bingo states and successfully trapped in CASE 3 recovery.
