VFA-41 Black Aces were tasked a fighter sweep CAP mission along the Syrian coast and beyond into Central Syria. The sweep was meant to lure any Syrian fighters into an awaiting CAP stronghold of Ally F14 and F18 aircraft.

Nine Black Aces pilots were selected for this mission, along with other two other F14 pilots from a supporting squadron.

During the patrol, eight bandits took the bait and approached the CAP patrol at various times throughout the mission. Seven of the eight hostile aircraft were destroyed, with one escaping back to a Syrian base. Three aircraft and pilots were lost in the fighting, two downed by enemy fighters, one pilot was lost in a ground collision.

Just wanted to let Mr. Bean know that I had an issue during this mission with the radio presets. The only one the was correct in the Dealer 1-4 aircraft was button 1 on Comm1 as 315.000. I also realized very late in the mission that I had 266.000 as button 20 on both radios, but Mother and the tankers were not in the bank and I tuned them manually. No big deal, just an FYI. Nobody else reported any similar issues.
