VFA-41 was given two tasking orders. First, a CAP mission to protect AV-8s that were providing CAS for inland Marines. Second, provide CAS for units along the shoreline.

CAP:
VFA-41 Dealer 2 and 3 were given the CAP tasking. Both flight launched, formed up, and headed for their assigned waypoints. Both flights patrolled the area around the Marine AV-8s area of operation. A flight of two SU-24s were spotted, intercepted, and shot down. No, Marine aircraft were shot down although two were lost when they impacted terrain in the mountains.

CAS:
VFA-41 Dealer 1 was tasked with providing close air support for units on the shoreline. Dealer 1 launched, formed up, and proceeded to their assigned waypoint at which they began to orbit. They were quickly assigned targets that were being laser designated by troops on the ground and marked by white phosphorous smoke. Two targets were designated and both destroyed. Dealer 1 then returned to their holding orbit over the beach. Dealer 1 was then given grid coordinates of a group of scud launchers and tasked with finding and destroying them. Dealer flight 1 was able to find and destroy the launchers using GBU-12s and self lasing the targets. One launcher managed to launch it's missile shortly before it was destroyed but fortunately the missile landed in a remote area of the mountains.

All flights were relieved and returned to USS George Washington. One aircraft diverted to a shore base as precaution after having some system malfunctions.
