SITUATION
USS Theodore Roosevelt is operating off the coast of Lebanon in support of ongoing combat operations in Syria. The attached air wing and VFA-41 are conducting a series of air strikes against Syrian air defense and infrastructure targets within the AOR.
MISSION
VFA-41 has been tasked to strike a major power production facility (WP3) in the city of Aleppo. The power plant is located in the North-central part of the city, adjacent to Aleppo Stadium and the city’s main railyard.
The facility consists of the main generating plant (primary target) as well as three support buildings (secondary targets).
Ingress and egress has been planned to skirt coastal air defenses. Deviation from route of flight risks entering the WEZ of a number of known SAM sites.
The city of Aleppo is also heavily defended by SAM and AAA sites. CHEVY flight, a group of six F-16s out of Incirlik Airbase will attempt to neutralize the long and medium range SAM sites in the area prior to our arrival.
A KC-135 (TEXACO) will be on station off the coast of Turkey along the ingress/egress route.
Incirlik Airbase is available as a divert.
THREATS
In addition to a SA-2 and SA-11 site covering the target (which will hopefully be neutralized by CHEVY flight), expect numerous AAA emplacements as well as short range mobile SAMS to also be operating in vicinity of the city.
Minimal opposition by Syrian Air Force interceptors is expected, however they do occasionally conduct Combat Air Patrols south of Aleppo.
ROE
The powerplant is located within the city limits and surrounded by non-combatant structures and the civilian population. Care should be taken to select ordnance that will minimize collateral damage.
All military aircraft, facilities, and vehicles may be engaged as required.
