CC-08 Creeping Scud
by Shadow

TIME: OCT 18, 2020, 1000L launch.
WEATHER: Cloudy with ceiling at 7k,
Surface wind west @ 7 kts,
SW aloft @ 14
QNH 29.92
LOCATION: Black Sea

MISSION:
Flights of the VFA-41 Black Aces will launch and search for scud launchers and associated support vehicles entering Georgia from the south. Topography of the area indicates two general locations level enough to setup launch vehicles and deploy scuds and also provide nearby forest cover for concealment. These general areas are marked with WP#4 and WP#5. The convoy will possibly include anti-air capabilities; ManPad, mobile AAA, mobile SAM. A CAP flight should be established to the north in case of a hostile fighter response. VAZIANI AB is still unusable and SOGANLUG AP is designated as the alternate Divert Field. Jet fuel supply has been increased to 40,000 lbs. ROE: Weapons FREE for mission objective vehicles and any clearly hostile threats in Georgia sovereign territory. Flight path = 340 nm.

SITUATION:
Credible intel warns of a scud missile convoy traveling north west into Georgia through Armenia, possibly supplied by IRAN. The convoy may consists of 4 to 6 Scud launchers and support vehicles. INTEL is certain this convoy is the same Scud launchers responsible for the previous attack on Viziani AB and surrounding population. Due to the mountainous topography of the area, no exact location or
route has been established. The mission and targets of the scud convoy is unknown, but Georgia Government officials request the
convoy be found and destroyed before it can launch another assault.
New Intel:
A goat herder in northern Armenia called in a report of trucks and "missile tractors" traveling off road just one hour ago.
He thought the vehicles were moving slowly north or maybe northwest. "Making much dust, more trucks than my goats".
He described his location as "Only two hours walk from Georgia". His cell phone is currently out of service.
The scud convoy likely traveled through Azerbaijan or Armenia with the help of radical separatists trying to divide Georgia.
Cloud cover is preventing any sat data to confirm or locate but there should not be any civilian vehicle convoys in that area.

Re-defining "hostile intent" for ROE

Post by Shadow » Mon Oct 12, 2020 5:15 pm

Hostile enemy fighters are not allowed to violate Georgia air space. It is our job to encourage them to stay away. So if a hostile fighter enters Georgia air space (includes the area of South Ossetia) and attempts to close within weapon launch distance of us or our support aircraft, that is Hostile Intent and you are weapons free on those fighters. "Attempting to close" means they are bringing the fight to you, not just flanking or on a converging flight path. So we are NOT Weapons Free on all enemy fighters because we can not exactly determine where the borders are while in mission. And we do NOT want to shoot down any Russia aircraft in RUSSIA. If you look at the mission map, you will notice the Russian SA-10 SAMs have a red threat ring that "roughly" indicates the boarder between Georgia and Russia. That is visible on SA and works as an indication of the border.
