21 April 2019 - The Big Burn Recovery

VFA-41 was successful in eliminating much of the ground force assembling near the town of Sayeh Khvosh. Unfortunately, one of VFA-41's aircraft was shot down in the process. The pilot managed to get away from the mainland and ejected over an island to the southwest of Bandar Lengeh.

The island has a small Iranian outpost on it's north side who's occupants are certain to have seen the jet go down. Intelligence reports that Iran does not have any air assets on the island, but they could be on the way form the mainland. Ground force numbers on the island are expected to be low but will likely be searching for the pilot as well.

VFA-41's rotary wing unit is tasked with recovering the down pilot before he is captured by the Iranians.
What is left of the fixed wing assets are to provide air cover and close air support during the recovery.

The pilot has an ELT transmitting on 46 Mhz FM.

UH-1h's will take off from the Tarawa, recover the pilot, and RTB to the Stennis.

All aircraft are to recover at the Tacan 74X carrier CVN-74 (Stennis)..
CVN-70 is for launching only and will not be used for recovery operations.

1. How many Hueys?
There are three available, as well as six Hornets and two Tomcats.

2. Will Hueys be armed?
Yes, Door gunners and 2 M134s.

3. How will Hueys navigate to Stennis?
Dead reckoning, Tarawa is in the same area as the Stennis. Just head back the way you came from. I've flown it several times now, never had a problem finding the carrier. If need be I imagine I can get something we can home in on at the carrier.
