SITUATION

The second to last week at Nellis will be a SEAD and Fighter escort mission, protecting a flight of 4 B-52s as they make their way across enemy territory to strike a simulated enemy oil/fuel storage facility.

Mission Commander’s notes: F-14’s are available this week and may be placed in placed in DEALER 2 or 3 as escort assets. DEALER 2 and 3 flight leads should remain in Hornets, however, due to comms and mission trigger limitations.

DEALER Flights should not begin taxi until 11:13 in order to allow bombers to get airborne first. Be wary of wake turbulence on takeoff.

MISSION

DEALER 1 will be assigned to suppress any hostile surface to air threats detected along the ingress route. DEALER 1 aircraft will be loaded out with a mix of AGM-88s and JSOWs. ELINT assets in the form of 2x EA-6B Prowlers will be providing emitter detection and triangulation on mission frequency (266.0 [6])

DEALER 2 and 3 jets will be loaded out for air to air and are responsible for keeping any red air from engaging the bombers on their way to target. WIZARD will also be on frequency 266.0 [6] and will assist in calling out red air threats.

Winds are from the northeast, and flights will depart via Runway 3 utilizing the DREAM SIX departure. Flight leads will be directed to contact Blackjack upon range entry at JUNNO and will be instructed to take their flights to top off at the mission tankers (ARCO/TEXACO) due to the length of the flight.

Flight leads should report “tanking complete” to BLACKJACK and then proceed to the strike package marshalling point, St George (WP1)

BLACKJACK will advise when the exercise commences and all flights may then depart the Marshalling point.

The exercise will be complete after the bombers safely egress the target area [WP5] or if they are all destroyed prior to bomb drop. In either case BLACKJACK will issue a “Knock it off” call and direct flights to RTB Nellis via JAYSN [WP6] and the BEATTY arrival.

THREATS

Several Red air groups will be operating in the area and may attempt to intercept the strike package on the way to target. Red air pilots have been instructed not to engage DEALER 1 aircraft as they carry out their SEAD mission.

Red Surface to Air threats are expected along the way. HOUND will assist DEALER 1 in identifying emitter type and location, so that they may be engaged prior to the strike package closing to within lethal range.

Missile trainer mode will be active and red-surface to air and air to air missiles should not damage blue aircraft. Hit notifications will be broadcast via text message. Any pilot hit should break off their attack, and turn cold for 30 seconds, after which, they may re-join the fight and re-engage.

R4808A (Dreamland) will NOT be active today. Flights will not be restricted from overflying the area.

ROE

Confirmed hostile Red aircraft may be engaged BVR if directed by AWACS or if posing a threat to the Bombers.

Any live surface to air emitter may be engaged by SEAD assets.

All aircraft are reminded that it is squadron SOP to monitor GUARD frequency (121.5/253.0) on COMM2. This will be required at all times in the range complex for high priority information and traffic deconfliction purposes.

If you missed the ELINT/SEAD training that was completed during Week 8, a description of the function of the ELINT script that will be in effect, plus an optional download of the EA-6B Prowler mod may be viewed here:
