SITUATION

This week, the squadron will practice air intercepts and BVR air to air tactics under the control of AWACS.

Mission Commander’s note: F-14’s are available this week and may be placed in any flight, provided the F-14 pilot is not designated as a flight lead (due to trigger/comms restrictions).

MISSION

Winds are from the northwest, and flights will depart via Runway 3 utilizing the DREAM SIX departure. Flight leads will be directed to contact Blackjack upon range entry at JUNNO and will be given further instructions upon check in with range control.
  • Once the E-2 (DARKSTAR) is on station, Blackjack will transfer operational control to Darkstar and direct flights to contact AWACs for tasking.
  • Once directed by Blackjack, flights should switch to AWACS frequency and Flight Leads will need to “check in” with DARKSTAR when ready for tasking.
  • DARKSTAR will not be on the normal DCS Main Comm menu. Flight leads will need to interact with DARKSTAR via a dedicated AWACS:Darkstar submenu found in the “other” section of the main comms menu.
  • As each flight checks in, they will be given a CAP holding point and Angels (point will be RALEIGH – WP2). Flights will proceed there and hold until directed.
Red air will originate from Tonopah Airport and marshal in the Red Staging area. This area will be shown on in-game F10 map and should not be entered by Blue aircraft. DARKSTAR will be tracking all Red aircraft and provide periodic picture reports with Red Air group location (referencing Bullseye) and type, if known.

Blue air will be protecting the airspace East of R4804A. A Fighter Engagement Zone (FEZ) has been established (also visible on in-game map) that DARKSTAR will enforce.

As enemy aircraft enter the FEZ, DARKSTAR will assign DEALER flight(s) to intercept (commit) the trespassing Red flights.
  • Once assigned a commit, flight leads, using the AWACS:Darkstar menu, should either acknowledge the commit order, or declare “unable”. If unable, the target will be reassigned.
  • AWACS will continue to update each flight with their target’s Range and Bearing at periodic intervals.
  • If unsure of tasking, flight leads can manually request their current orders via the AWACS:Darkstar menu.
  • Assuming the enemy threat is neutralized, AWACS will then re-clear the assigned DEALER flight back to their CAP holding point until the next commit assignment is warranted.

The exercise is scheduled to last for approximately 60 minutes. Upon completion of the exercise, Blackjack will issue a “knock it off” call and direct flights to RTB.

TEXACO will be operating just to the south of our CAP station in the ELGIN Sector. Flights should tank as needed to remain on station for the duration of the 60 minute exercise.

THREATS

Multiple Red air groups of various aircraft types will be operating. They will be directed to engage as normal with radar and IR guided missiles, however, Red Missiles will be non-lethal. Hits scored on Blue aircraft will be announced, but no damage will be done to Blue aircraft.

R4808A (Dreamland) will NOT be active today. Flights will not be restricted from overflying the area.

ROE

Dealer flights should only intercept targets as assigned by AWACS.

BVR rules apply and any assigned target that is IFF’d or shows hostile via datalink from AWACS can be engaged without a visual ID.

All aircraft are reminded that it is squadron SOP to monitor GUARD frequency (121.5/253.0) on COMM2. This will be required at all times in the range complex for high priority information and traffic deconfliction purposes.
