SITUATION

This week squadron pilots will once again practice within visual range (WVR) air combat tactics against various aggressor aircraft. Pilots will be training against a different set/types of aggressor aircraft than in previous missions.

All aircraft will depart Nellis AFB and each flight will be assigned an ACM range where they will conduct three air to air “events” utilizing guns and/or AIM-9 missiles (no radar guided missiles allowed). Each event will consist of a different aggressor aircraft threat.

The ACM area controllers will monitor each event and report kill status over SHOWTIME frequency. For training purposes, Missile Trainer mode will be active and missile/gun hits on blue aircraft will be reported, but not lethal. The use of TACTS pod and CATM AIM-9 will be simulated by equipping each jet with an “unlimited” AIM-9x on one wing.

Note to Mission Commander: For this mission F-14 pilots will operate independently and should be placed in DEALER 4. Each DEALER flight should have at least 2 aircraft.

MISSION

Hornet Flights (DEALER 1, 2, 3) will depart runway 03L and enter the range via the DREAM 6 Departure. After checking in with BLACKJACK, Hornet flights will be directed to hold at Mormon Peak (WP1) and report when flight is joined up and ready for tasking.

Tomcat Flight (DEALER 4) will depart runway 03L and will proceed to the range via the FYTTR departure. Upon entering the range at JAYSN (WP1), DEALER 4 will be directed to continue to their assigned range.

• Once flight leads report “flight joined” at Mormon Peak (WP1)(or Tomcats via JAYSN,) range assignments will be given and each flight will be directed to their respective reset point (WP2)

o DEALER 1: Coyote Charlie / Reset ALPHA
o DEALER 2: Caliente Alpha / Reset BRAVO
o DEALER 3: Caliente Charlie / Reset CHARLIE
o DEALER 4: Echo Charlie E&W / Reset DELTA

• Approaching their reset point, fights will be directed to switch to SHOWTIME on their respective area frequency.

• Upon reaching their reset point (WP2) for the first time, SHOWTIME will announce commencement of the first DACT event. Bearing/range and aggressor aircraft type will be provided.

• The following rules apply for each event:

o All aircraft are weapons hold until the first merge
o Guns and AIM-9 only
o Every range has a hard deck of 10,000’ MSL. Violating the hard deck will result in a “kill” and the offending aircraft will be directed to disengage and return to their reset point (WP2) to await the next event.
o When SHOWTIME records a “hit” on a friendly or aggressor aircraft, it will be announced on the radio and that aircraft must immediately disengage. "killed" aircraft must immediately retreat to their reset point (WP2) until the start of the next event.
o Once all aircraft in an aggressor or friendly flight are “dead”, SHOWTIME will make a “knock it off” call and all remaining aircraft should immediately disengage and fly to their reset point (WP2)

• At the conclusion of the first event, once a DEALER flight’s aircraft are all back at their reset point, Flight lead should utilize the comms-other menu to initiate the second event.

• Same rules and procedures apply to the second and third events, with each aircraft returning to the reset point if “killed” or when “knock it off” is called by SHOWTIME, and flight lead requesting the subsequent event via the radio menu when ready.

• Two tankers are located near the ranges and may be utilized if fuel is needed before completing all three events.

• At the conclusion of the third and final event, SHOWTIME will direct all DEALER flights to return their reset point and switch BLACKJACK frequency for range exit.

• DEALER 1,2,3 will exit the range via ELGIN E (WP3) and RTB Nellis via the Mormon Mesa Arrival. DEALER 4 will exit the range via JAYSN and RTB via the Beatty Arrival.

THREATS

No lethal threats exist in today’s DACT event. Aggressor guns and weapons will not damage blue aircraft as kills will be reported via SHOWTIME.

There is terrain present in each of the ACM ranges. All pilots are reminded that the hard deck for this hop is 10,000’. The rules of engagement exist for your safety and that of your team.

ROE

Follow the prescribed route of flight and any directives issued by ATC/Range Control.

R4808A (Groom Lake) is not active today, brief incursions into the Restricted Area are allowed (will primarily affect DEALER 1).

All aircraft are reminded that it is squadron SOP to monitor GUARD frequency (121.5/253.0) on COMM2. This will be required at all times in the range complex for high priority information and traffic deconfliction purposes.
