SITUATION

Friendly rebel groups (green) in southern Syria have pushed up across the area and into Damascus proper, methodically clearing out hostile insurgent cells in vicious block-to-block fighting.

With Damascus cleared, Coalition forces mounted an airborne assault operation to capture Damascus International Airport and turn it into the fortified center of a 5 nautical mile perimeter security zone, nicknamed the 'Blue Zone.' It's protected from air by a Patriot battery and a NASAMs battery, and groups of armored vehicles protect the entrances, with a slowly-growing city of tents and supplies being ferried in by an air bridge of C-130s from the Mediterranean Sea.
  • The mercs in Tiyas are increasing their confrontations against ISIS close to the town of Palmyra.
  • The guys who we used to arm early in the war but are now more extreme and hostile to everyone (orange territory) are fighting intensely with ISIS for control of Kuweires Airfield, less than 20 nm east of Aleppo Airfield.
  • These guys have also recently been detected capturing and putting into service ZSU-23-4 Shilka AAA mobile vehicles.
MISSION
Dealer flights will fly a late afternoon A2G combat air patrol throughout Syria. Each Dealer flight has a different flight plan, covering north, central, and eastern Syria, with area overlap between flights to ensure good coverage. Flight plans remain the same as last week.

Chinese flights have been active throughout the day but should be slowing down as the Sun begins to set.

Mission Commander and Flight Leaders should expect to be called over tactical frequencies for targets of opportunity throughout the patrol. RTB criteria is fuel emergency or winchester.

Refueling tankers are spread across the region, there should be no problem getting a top-up if needed.

THREATS
- MANPADs everywhere that friendly forces do not control.
- Controlled flight into terrain due to loss of situational awareness while flying at night. Pay attention to your horizon and pitch ladder cues!

ROE

WEAPONS FREE (on assigned targets). It is highly likely that given targets will be in dense urban areas. Carrying a FLIR pod is mandatory and verification needed to ensure civilian areas are not struck.

Two additional KC-135MPRSs will be taking up station tonight in northern and southern Syria to help with refueling demands.
