SITUATION
The ground battle is slowly advancing towards the Syrian town/airfield of Jirah. NATO command wants Syrian targets and installations in and around Jirah to be softened as friendly ground forces approach the area.
Army and Air Force CAS assets are relocating to the airport at Aleppo to be nearer to the the front lines, and a detachment of USMC Harriers from USS TARAWA will also be forward deploying to Aleppo to assist along the front.
Carrier and Incirlik based Navy and Air Force strike aircraft will continue around the clock targeting of Syrian positions deep within the AOR.
MISSION
VFA-41 will be flying as SEAD and Fighter escort for a strike against the Syrian airfield at Jirah [WP3]. Jirah airbase is one of three remaining Syrian held runways in northern Syria. Knocking it out of commission will force Syrian fighters and ground attack aircraft to relocate to Tabqa or Palmyra and greatly increase their transit time to and from the front.
The main strike package will consist of a flight of B-52s [BUFF Flight] operating out of Souda Bay and a flight of F-15Es [RAGE Flight] operating out of Incirlik.
The strike package will assemble at the rendezvous point [WP1] at 16:45 and then proceed to target. DEALER aircraft should meet the strike package at [WP1] and escort the strike to target and safely back out of Syria as far as [WP 5] before retuning to USS GEORGE WASHINGTON.
Due to the distance involved, two KC-135s (TEXACO 1, TEXACO 2) will take up station near the rendezvous point [WP1] for ingress tanking while waiting for package join-up and/or on egress as needed.
THREATS
Last week’s raid on the Hydroelectric and pumping station, just east of Jirah knocked out some of the air defenses in area, but the SA-11 site located just to the north of Jirah Airbase is undamaged and operational. This site will need to be suppressed or destroyed in order for BUFF and RAGE flights to deliver ordnance on target [WP3].
Short range IR/Optical SAMs (SA-9, SA-19) defend the immediate vicinity of the airport. Low altitude overflight of the target area is not advised.
US F-15s will be providing BARCAP between Incirlik and Aleppo, but approaching the target area, DEALER flights should also be prepared to intercept/turn back any Syrian fighters that attempt to engage the strike package from the SE.
ROE
Weapons free- All Syrian targets may be engaged.
