17 April 2022 - Damascus Dawn Week 14

Post by MrBean » Mon Apr 11, 2022 11:38 am

SITUATION

Peace talks broke down last week after Syria launched unprovoked SCUD missile attacks against Turkish cities and Syrian fighters attacked NATO coalition aircraft within the cease-fire zone, resulting in the loss of several allied aircraft and crews.

The allied coalition now finds itself in a similar situation to that faced by the US and her allies during the 1991 Gulf War. While Hatay Province has been freed of Syrian occupation and Syrian forces have been pushed back across the border, Syria’s military and its unpredictable/antagonistic leader still present a serious and formidable threat to Turkey, Jordan, and Israel.

Learning from the first Gulf War, NATO member nations are in agreement that the Syrian military and related industrial capabilities cannot be allowed to remain a cause for such instability in the region and have decided to continue the offensive into Syrian territory in order to further deprive president Assad of the means to further his aggression in the area. Allied ground forces are initiating an offensive towards Minakh Airbase in the north while air planners are expanding strikes to include military-industrial targets within the city of Aleppo.

MISSION

VFA-41 will be part of a large nighttime strike against targets in Aleppo. Squadron aircraft will launch at 22:00 and link up with the rest of the strike package at the specified rendezvous point [WP1] and hold until cleared by MAGIC to continue.

At approximately 22:35, SEAD aircraft (CHEVY Flight) will push inland to prosecute the known surface to air missile emplacements along the ingress route to Aleppo.

Once the SEAD packages are enroute, the strike elements consisting of all DEALER flights and F-15E strike Eagles (FORD flight) out of Incirlik will be cleared to proceed towards their initial points.

PONTIAC Flight (3x F-14B) has been slated to accompany the strike flights to assist with fighter sweep/escort duty

Our target will be a factory complex in center of the City [WP3]. The single target waypoint is located in the middle of the complex and we will have four large assembly and warehouse buildings to destroy within the target area (reference satellite recon photo(s)).

TEXACO will be on station off the coast.

THREATS

SAM threats in and around Aleppo consist of known SA-2 and SA-8 sites with an additional suspected SA-6 emplacement at the SE edge of the city protecting Aleppo Airport. Two SEAD flights will precede the strike package and attempt to neutralize those threats.

AAA is located throughout the city and in the vicinity of the target area.

The runways at Minakh and Abu al-Duhur Airbases are still inoperative. Syrian Migs will have to launch from interior airfields further, but may have CAP on station to the East of Aleppo. Accordingly, strike and egress from the target area as quickly as possible.

Friendly aircraft will be operating along the coast at North and South CAP stations to provide cover during egress.

ROE

Weapons free- All hostile targets may be engaged as required
